Plant = Fin Rot

March 11, 2010 By: Carley Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

Hello Everyone! Sorry I haven’t written for a while- I have been busy! So a while ago my sister came home from college and she brought her betta fish with her. (Blooper) She just kept him in a glass bowl with rocks and a fake plant. He was doing great, and I loved having him. But my own fish, (Dodo) was having a problem with fin rot. My aunt who also owns a betta fish suggested taking the plant out. So I did, and now they are both doing great! My sisters fish (Blooper) Still has the plant in his tank and he is not suffering from fin rot, so I really don’t know whats up. Just thought I’d let you know in case anyone is having the same problem.

Frozen Brine Shrimp

October 28, 2009 By: Carley Category: Uncategorized 2 Comments →

Hi Everybody! I have been researching what kind of food to feed my betta, and I have found that most people recommend frozen or live food. So I started trying Frozen Brine Shrimp, and the results are amazing! I also read that you should give a variety for your bettas diet, so I fast my betta once a week, give her brine shrimp most of the week, and occasionally give her flake food and a little part of a pea. It seems to work out great! Her color is a much more vibrant blue. Although it takes more time to feed  your fish this way, your fish will thank you! I highly reccomend Frozen Brine Shrimp, and there are a lot in a package!

Betta Water

September 30, 2009 By: Carley Category: Uncategorized 23 Comments →

I have a question about what kind of water to use for my betta. For my last two bettas I used tap water, and they both died. I don’t think it was because of the tap water, but I think that might have had sometimething to do with it. So this time with my new betta, Andro, I decided to use distilled water. But I just looked online at a website, and it said to stay away from distilled water. Now I don’t know what kind of water to use! I am using betta conditioner every time I change the water. What should I do? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

New Betta!

September 30, 2009 By: Carley Category: Uncategorized 7 Comments →

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I got a new betta! She is blue and her name is Andrew.(Someone else named him, not me!)  Well, I call her Do Do (Not doo doo, but doe doe) Because every betta I have had, I named it with an O at the end of it’s name. So sometimes I call her Andrew, or Andro, or Do Do. It’s kind of weird, but it’s a tradition!

But Andro seems so bored all the time. I try to move her around and put her in different places a lot. I also try to put her in places where there are a lot of people moving around and such, because I heard they like to be where there is action. This might sound weird, but are there ways to like, play with your betta fish? Make them less bored and more happy? I will take any suggestions I can get!

Thanks!

UPDATE

TURNING WHITE: Thank you for all your comments on my lovely little betta turning white. He is still alive, but just a weird color now. I did some research and asking around, and discovered that bettas in the wild are not as pretty as those in captivity that are bred to be b-e-a-utiful! So I think Indy just is losing his color because of his genetics. No infection. No disease. Just genes!

I had never heard this before, and do not know if it is true. But this information comes a previous betta breeder.

Yes, he has a heater. Yes, he gets regular water changes. He is just weirdly colored now, but is still my little baby.

Hope every else is having luck! My four babies are still thriving… with a bit of fin rot. But all is well. They are piggies.

Have a good day.

A Lot of News

February 26, 2009 By: Sam Simpson Category: Uncategorized 18 Comments →

Well I got a few fish that go well with bettas and well they all where doing fine. Then I saw a few of the fish had ick so I put this medication that gets rid of it. Not only did it fail it ended up killing all of them with ick and the Rainbow……so well they are dead. The only fish left are two small fish. Well I believe when I GOT the fish they had ick because if I remember correctly one of them where just rubbing his body against the rocks. So I shall never buy from PetCo ever agine.

New Tank

February 01, 2009 By: Sam Simpson Category: Uncategorized 6 Comments →

Well I just got a new 10 gallon tank! Since my other tank was just to small to me (it was 1 gallon) so it looks amazing, the tank that I usually keep Rainbow in is on top of the water to even out the water temperature. Oh and Rainbow is doing just fine know so he is healthy and will be in even better heath when he gets into his new tank.

Happy fish

Okay well my fish’s health was just spiraling out of control. Then I just did a full water change (it did not take as long as usual) and then added a heater (if by heater I mean a lamp) then he was a actually active. So I he is still on the fin rot medicine (that stuff never goes away) so He just a happy fish. :D

Turning white…

January 11, 2009 By: kelly Category: Betta Care, Betta Colors, Betta Health, Questions, Uncategorized 28 Comments →

Hello fellow bloggers,

I have a mystery I need help solving! One of my bettas is turning white. It is slowly spreading from his dorsal fin all around his body. It isn’t a fungus or sickness. Nothing is growing on him. He is active, healthy and eats like a piggy. His tank stays at a reasonable temperature and he gets weekly water changes. Is this from old age? He has been living close to a year.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Death of Betta

January 02, 2009 By: Carley Category: Uncategorized 23 Comments →

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that on Monday my fish Bo died. I think he was suffering from Ick, and I guess I didn’t treat it fast enough. He was my second betta, and now I don’t have a betta. But keep me posted about your other bettas, because I will still be on here posting about different tips I had with my bettas. I might get another betta in the future.

How to clean your tank if your betta is sick.

December 30, 2008 By: Sam Simpson Category: Uncategorized 8 Comments →

Well it is not much different cleaning your tank then you normally do. Well so I will tell you how to do it.
First you get the fish into another tank (or some where you can keep it for a how ever long it takes for you to clean your tank.) Once that is over empty the tanks water out in a sink (make sure NO rocks fall out if they do put them back in the tank.) Then you get a strainer (or something similar) to dump your rocks in and run HOT water though them (to kill all the bacteria in the rocks) once that is done (NOTE: make sure all the water that is falling out of the holes is CLEAR water not even a tad bit dirty). Now we must was the tank grab a cloth and put HOT water on on the cloth then wash the tank with the cloth. If you use artificial plants just run them under HOT water. If you use real plants put new ones in the tank. Now put your rocks and plants in as you normally would do but fill the tank with your normal water (can be bottled water) in make sure it is purified. Then put your betta in the tank and give him his medication. Hope this helps,

Sick Betta

December 28, 2008 By: Carley Category: Uncategorized 19 Comments →

Hello everyone!! Bo’s tail rot is getting better, but he has another problem. He has just been sitting at the bottom of his tank, kind of sideways, all the time. When I go and tap on his tank he comes up, but other than that he only comes up for air. He isn’t eating either. He has a few, (very few) white spots on his face. I’m not sure if he has Ick or if he is just depressed. Does anyone have any sugestions? I could really, REALLY use some. This is the first time my betta has gotten sick, and I’m not sure what to do. Thanks, I really appreciate it.
