So sorry I haven’t been around as of late. Been super busy with life. I’ll try to not let that stop me from writing anymore. As for my betta bad news. He was acting weird and I tried giving him antibiotics. But unfortunately he passed away. I was very sad, but decided to get another betta. I will post pics soon of my new betta, Micky. He has different colorings and quite a personality. So thats the quick version, I’ll write more soon!

I have had some pretty good luck with some of the Bettas I have Bought at Wal Mart…..Easy does it you guys….Its in Yelm, Washington and the lady in charge of this department doates on them as if they were all her personal family. She is elderly and has had years with aquariums and fish species and this last time she scurried me to the display to pull out a lovely Red with 1/2 dispercement White tipped Spade Tail. She has helped me get some great Crown tails including “Abberation” who is a Transparent with Blue/Black Ray Tips. For around 3 years I have been buying my Bettas from Wal mart in Yelm and all have been beauties.

hi… i have a betta, and hes red.. well, how do i know if it’s a female, or male? and, what does it mean when his face looks kinda greyish, i’m thinking hes sick? but, another thing. I bought some type of cheap food for my bby betta? , and he just spits it out? does he not like it?? & ANOTHER thing. I put one of those weekend feeders in his tank, because i was going away, is that okay for him??

Hello, Need some help, just purchased a betta fish. I have heard different opinions about what their needs are. i have him in a bowl with color rocks. is that all he needs? What tempature does the water have to be? SOmeone told me and one web search stated betta’s need filter systems with heaters is that true/

I advise not to use rocks in your betta tank. rocks can scratch your bettas fins and body, not to mention its a pain in the ass to clean. to keep your betta happy use almond leaves so they can swim in and around it. almond leaves also makes for a healthier conditioned water. I have a king betta, a giant king, a super fighter, 2 rare colored crowntails(red,white,blue and a black with blue pigment), a dragon betta and a long fin 3 toned common betta. I feed my bettas a variety of foods, live bloodworms, nutrition pellets, live small guppies and molly fishes(they love this the most because they enjoy hunting for the food), feeder shrimps are great too, also boiled egg but only as a treat(i find that my fishes are a little more lively after eating this). If you decide to feed your betta boiled egg make sure to exercise it because the egg whites contain protein and egg yolk is fatty. Have them chase another fish that is too big to eat and fast enough so swim away. Your fish will grow at a slightly faster pace with egg. Hope my information helps you.

oh and bettas dont need any filter system. they breath air and i read that a little of the bacteria from their crap is needed for their water. When changing betta water its advised to only change 80percent of the water, some people only change 50percent. Make sure you use conditioner drops when changing water. To avoid constant changing of my bettas waters i use a regular sized straw and use it as a suction to suck up larger pieces of their crap. Their water needs to be kept warm no more than 80 degrees, but i live in hawaii and the weather is most times prime betta temp so i dont every use a heater although its recommended. Even if the water isnt warm your betta should survive. What i found out through experience is common long tails and sometimes spade tails die easier. I think its just the way they are built.
