Vote No to House Resolution 669

I just got a email from ThatPetPlace.com saying that if this goes threw then all un-native animals to the U.S. can not be breed. Since Betta fish come from Asia we could no longer be able to bread them and have to import bettas from out of the U.S. Not only does it cause the betta un-needed stress but most would die from starvation and/or stress. This is what the email says “What would the world be like without pets? A new bill proposed in the House could make this a reality. All pet owners should be aware of a pending federal government resolution. House Resolution 669 is designed to change the way the government classifies animals available in the pet trade. If passed into law it will severely impact keeping pets in America and could destroy the pet industry as we know it. HR699 would make it illegal to buy, sell and breed animals not native to the United Sates. This includes most species of tropical fish, ferrets, most reptile and amphibian species, corals, and many others. Though That Fish Place/That Pet Place is in favor of an effective invasive species law, we are convinced this is absolutely not the legislation to accomplish that. If this resolution is passed they might as well say the human race of our great nation is also illegal, because we all have descendants from other countries. Also what are we to say to our children when they want a hampster, lizard, frog or even a dog or cat for a pet. I don’t know where this woman is coming from, but she is definitely not a member of thr American way of life to come up with a rediculous resolution as this, that is an American way of life.

To make it worse, the bill also bans transport across state lines. We couldn’t import a fish from Asia unless the plane touches down or the ship docks in the state where we receive it. Section 3F says we could be required to prove we bought the fish *before* the ban. Got receipts? I don’t.

That bill doesn’t effect dogs, cats, bettas, birds, or any other domesticated animals. It effects the animals that are dangerous and are killing off our native species.

Vote no to House resolution 669! I can understand where they’re coming from–I know for example that certain birds that are brought into the country from South America die on the way here. Therefore they want people to get there pets from domestic breeders instead of internationally. I learned that at the zoo. When you bring pets on long journeys a huge percentage die for the sake of only a few surviving pets. But I don’t think they can ban all pet trade. In the case of fish I don’t think travel is a strain for them. Also, is this about invasive species, or what?

This resolution does not include all imported animals. There is a list of “approved animals” that goes along with it. It is designed to protect our wildlife against harmful imported animals. This resolution will not affect bettas.

This resolution won’t effect domesticated species. That means that our pets like betta fish or cats or dogs or domesticated birds won’t be affected. Only wild tropical fish and other invasives native to other countries. Don’t get your panties in a bunch people.

I think that is incorrect. I just bought a red Betta 2 weeks ago that came from Chula Vista, CA. I Saw a Black one i wanted so bad but could not purchase. They may have started in Asia but America has embraced this loveable fish.
