TURNING WHITE: Thank you for all your comments on my lovely little betta turning white. He is still alive, but just a weird color now. I did some research and asking around, and discovered that bettas in the wild are not as pretty as those in captivity that are bred to be b-e-a-utiful! So I think Indy just is losing his color because of his genetics. No infection. No disease. Just genes!
I had never heard this before, and do not know if it is true. But this information comes a previous betta breeder.
Yes, he has a heater. Yes, he gets regular water changes. He is just weirdly colored now, but is still my little baby.
Hope every else is having luck! My four babies are still thriving… with a bit of fin rot. But all is well. They are piggies.
Have a good day.
KH

I am working on getting pictures of Indy and yes, I am happy he is still alive. He has stopped losing color… and that’s because he has hardly any left! He’s happy though.

As with tropical fish, there are vitamin supplements you can buy for your Betta that help them maintain their color. I can’t find it online at the moment but I’ve bought some in the past and it worked great.

My betta turned a sad pail while we were on vacation becaus the girl that was feeding my bettas did not turn off the light in his tank. I turned off the light over night and the next morning he was back to normale.

My bettas have always fluctuated in colour. They’re mood fish. He may just not be feeling very flashy at the moment
I’m sure he’ll brighten up soon, especially if there’s a pretty girl around.

My betta was kinda turning white when I first got him. When I tried feeding him he just wouldn’t eat for a few days. Maybe he was just a little astonished in a new home, you know… nervous. But soon he began to get used to it and he ate the color-enhancing pellets and got his color back. Now he’s a happy go lucky, goody two shoes fish!

Males and females do fight and will rip fins and possibly kill each other if not under close observation. It will probably take about 3-6 months for the male’s fins to grow back. As for the male betta turning a different color that is caused by a marble gene in it’s background. Either of his parents could have been marble or have it in the gene pool. The thing about Marble colored bettas is that they tend to keep changing. If you are going to breed the bettas you need to read up on what it takes. The female has to come out after spawning and the male is left in with the eggs until they hatch and are freeswimming, then he needs to come out if he hasn’t eaten the eggs himself.

I had a betta fish that turned white, and he died a week ago. Bettas dont turn white from genetics, because they would of been white from the beggining. You might want to make sure the water is the right temperature, and that the high temperature is constant, you absolutely NEED a heater for fish bowls if you live in a country with a continental climate, otherwise they will lose colour, and eventually might die. You can also just shine a light (also at night) next to the bowl to warm up the water a bit. You should go to a pet shop that has bettas, and ask someone about turning white, they might tell you something that might save your betta’s life!! good luck!

changing color is normal as from my experience bettas will change it color because, 1st. genetic it self if it was from wild breading & 2nd is because of the fish might be a little stress or due to environment. As all know bettas will feel more save if the environment of the tank is closed to the nature.
What i have did for my wild catch bettas is, putting some almond leave & live plant to give more hiding place. Result is the fish color will be back to darker as first catch. but it would not works if it from is genetic it self.
