Update

Hey everyone I just wanted to give everyone a quick update on my fish Bo. She is doing pretty well! She still has her tail rot problem (again, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know). A lot of algae was growing on her tank. Her tank was on my dresser that was in front of a window. I heard that you weren’t supposed to keep bettas in direct sunlight, but I had a curtain so I thought it was okay. But I moved her out of the sun and hardly any algae grows now. She still has a tail rot problem but its not as bad. So she is doing better

My tail rot problem on Apollo has made a change for the better! I used one of the Tetracycline (think that’s the name) tablets along with a bit of Melafix, some aquarium salt and water changes! It took well over a month for me to see improvements. But slowly, his tail is finally starting to grow back. Hope Bo gets better!

My previous betta died from fin and tail rot. It was my first experience with it, and he lost the battle. I did not sanitize the tank before introducing my new betta, Buddy, into it. Buddy also developed fin and tail rot.
I tried a combination of Triple Sulfa and Tetracycline, but I noticed a huge increase in the rate of rot. I then switched to Erythromycine, which made Buddy very sick. I was also told that many strains of the bacteria that cause fin and tail rot are resistant to Erythromycine.
Then, I switched to Maracyn and Maracyn Two (used together). That seemed to be a much gentler solution. It took 3 cycles of the Maracyn and Maracyn Two, but I did finally start to see new growth (a milky-colored film forming at the end of Buddy’s tail).
Treating for fin and tail rot can be a long process, so you have to be very patient and diligent with the medications.

I had fin rot with my Betta Tsunami too. Water changes and aquarium salt cleared it up in about two weeks. Since then I have put small amounts of aquarium salt in the tank whenever I change the water, just as a de-stressor for him =]

i had two different fish, each when i chanced their water they died, what did i do wrong? My little girl was the last one, she would come up in the water when she hear my voice, really would show off and ate so much, she was really small when we got her but she really got big and was a happy little thing, i changed her water,i put the water thur a filter pitcher and leave it out for a day and night to make sure its pure,i think that it scare her to dealth, because when i put her back because she was swimming around real fast then she was upside down, well i still have a male and his water needs changing and i’m afraid i will kill him he isn’t as activity as he was i think he misses her because i had them in bowls next to each other and he could see her what can i do to make sure i don’t kill him.

ok my betta fish dont have fin rot they r fine now BUT i mean they layed eggs for the FOURTH time today! and cuz my female jumped over the divider to lsy eggs well… my male started to chase the female in defense of the eggs but and i keep my fish in a simple triangle one gallon tank with a divider and they r fine they dont need a heater cuz i my room is always warm witch is where i keep them. and they layed eggs FOUR times during this whole summer i wonder if they will lay more again and again and again. but anway bak to the point see my male started to chase and hurt my female cuz they were on the same side one jumped over to lay eggs and my male accully got a LITTLE PIECE OF SKIN OFF but its just the color skin and she seems okayts the placde whre the skin got riped off by the male isnt big its just like less than an inch so its small and shes not bleeding but shes okay and when i saw the male chasing her i put them bak on there sides so now there is a divider between them so the male cant hurt her anymore im sure my femalew as terrified i mean could u imagine being in a tank and some big fish chashing u into place and biting u! so now the male is kinda always against the divider trying to get the female but the female is completly ignoring him! but i hope my female isnt in pain cuz of the tiny piece of skin that the male bit off but im sure my male did that in defense of the eggs cuz they love ehachother i mean to lay eggs four times they must be liking eachother and the tank is only one gallon but they havent had a problem with it but im ganna see if i can get a bigger tank but my mom wont let me get one of those big retangle tanks cuz that would be a lot of work well not really but more to cleam anmd i have to make cleaning my tank quik cuz im goin into fifth grade and im ganna have HOMEWORK. so ive got to keep caring for ,my bettads low maintnence so i mean my bettas look fine in that tank but i mean wat fish doesnt want a bigger tank? so ill be looking around….and i also need more food but my mom doesnt think so…well we have some food left but its not alot butim ganna try out some different foods to see if they would like that better and im also ganna get new plants like ones that r smooth and they can go into like grass i now a nearby store that has really nice plastic grass so next time i go ill get that. but im keeping a close eye on my fish and doing watever i can to help them so i hope my females bit of skinn grows bak.
