Can Bettas Be Kept With Other Fish?
![]() |
Yes, and No. Bettas can be kept with other fish, however, remember that male Bettas are VERY territorial toward any fish that they think is another male Betta invading their territory. Though each Betta is a distinctive individual and will have his own personality, here are some ways to identify potential problem fish: fish with large amounts of red or blue coloring (i.e. Swordtails), fish with long, flowing fins (i.e. Guppies, Angelfish, High-Fin Tetras, Sailfin Mollies), fish with similar shapes (i.e. Gourami, Dwarf Gourami, Female Bettas). Also, watch out for fish that will nip and tear the Bettas fins, as this can result in infection or fighting and will cause stress. I do not recommend you keep your betta with any other fish.

Two males bettas would fight unless they are trained not to fight. A male and a female when it’s not mating sesoin is a bad idea.

both betta in the picture are males… the bigger picture is a cambodian fighting fish… short fined fighting fish is a female if you can see a white thing under its belly… it is actually an egg…

Females can be in the same tank, but there might be same fighting, so I wouldn’t recamend it. But, you can try it, now males, you NEVER try to have them share a tank with other bettas. But they can be in the same tank as other fish, you should google search I don’t know the names. X)

there are shortfin males, gont one, killed my tank, males have a more upturned mouth and are generally better coloured, although females these days tend to look great too. I’d say it was a shortfin male in the pic too! I’ve learnt a lot from my LFS mistake!

can i just know if mine or my friends betta will live longer
I have a 5 gallon filtered, heated, lighten tank and my betta is 100% physically and mentally healthy from wat i can c. (no finrot, depression swimblader problems ect) I clean out my tank once a week and feed it teltra flakes once a day. Ps i only leave the light on in the day time coz other wise my betta gets bored and I got 5 fake plants and a castle in my tank.
My friend has a 1.5 gallon non heated, non lighten, and obviously non filtered tank. Her fish is bigger than mine and also seem quite happy but a little bored coz he’s got nothing to swim around. She also cleans her tank out once a week and feeds two pellets of non teltra food once a day. Her fish is also physically healthy.
Can someone plz tell me how long mine and her’s will live im really competitive and she been my best friend 4 ages. plus she’s the smart, pretty relponsible one and it’d be sweet to beat her at something! ?
