What size tank you should get for your betta
![]() |
The Betta Fish should be placed in a jar no smaller than 1/2 gallon. Preferably 1 gallon. Anything smaller than 1/2 gallon does not give them sufficient living space. And their waste and uneaten food will deteriorate the water conditions rapidly in a small container.
Don’t let your Local Pet Store (LPS) tell you that a Betta can live in 3 ounces of water like they keep them in the LPS. The LPS often mentions a Bettas natural habitat the Rice Paddies are small. Which is totally incorrect. Rice Paddies are “huge”, with gallons and gallons of water. Bettas do not live in 3 ounces of water in the wild. See Pic of Rice Paddy. Learn more about how Rice Paddies are built (click here).

Note: Don’t be afraid to put your Betta in a 5 gallon tank. They’ll love it.

meme: Betta fish are really tough fish, your’s should have been able to survive a simple tank change. One thing I can think of is that maybe there was somekind of chemical that accidently found it way into the tank. Did you happen to spray air freshener in the room over the tank?

It is really all up to the betta, no joke! Both Carmichael and Daemon went threw a huge depression when I put them in a huge tank, they wouldn’t eat or play or anything. (Of course they wheren’t in there at the same time. lol) I had to get two one gallen tanks. They both love them. Daemon is more active. and Carmichael has been in a one gallon tank since i got him except for the one week I had him in the 5 gallon. Had Carmichael 1 1/2 years, and Daemon about a week or two. =)
